![]() ![]() PM2.5 is used prevalently as a unit of measurement due to how dangerous it is, being considered as the most hazardous pollutant that can be found in the air in Cincinnati and throughout the state of Ohio. Why is Cincinnati polluted right now?Ĭontributing factors to elevated levels of pollution that can sometimes be seen in Cincinnati include ones that come from a variety of combustion sources, as well as other activities or industries that disturb large amounts of earth which can add heavily to the particle pollution levels. As such, careful monitoring of air quality forecasts can be utilized to stay up to date on changing pollution levels, available both on this page as well as the AirVisual app. In closing, Cincinnati is a city that maintains prolonged spells of good air quality but may be subject to sudden elevations that could cause adverse health effects among certain portions of the population. ![]() These include ones such as ozone (O 3), nitrogen dioxide (NO 2), sulfur dioxide (SO 2), carbon monoxide (CO), as well as the two main types of particle pollution, PM10 and PM2.5. The US AQI reading is a figure aggregated from the main pollutants found in the air, based on their volume. These were one step up in the 'moderate' rating bracket, which requires a reading of 51 to 100. In the same month, however, higher readings were also seen, with US AQI readings of 66, 77 and 88 all being on record. This is the most optimal level of air quality when referring to the US AQI rating, and requires a reading of anywhere between 0 to 50 to be classified as such. In July of 2021, Cincinnati presented with a US AQI reading of 31, placing it into the 'good' air quality rating bracket. This is a relatively poor ranking, indicating the pollution levels present were enough to skew Cincinnati’s reading to the point where it came in many positions ahead of other cities throughout the United States. ![]() As well as achieving this rating, it also placed the city in 2507 th place out of all cities ranked globally, for 2020. In 2020, Cincinnati presented with a yearly PM2.5 average of 10.1 μg/m³, placing it in the 'good' rating bracket of air quality. Whilst a majority of its months manage to fall within the more optimal levels of air pollution as set out by the World Health Organization, there have been other months on record whereby the pollution levels rise somewhat, making it possible for negative side effects or certain health issues to arise, particularly amongst vulnerable members of the population. But the quiet weather is once again short-lived with another system diving our way Monday bringing the threat for more strong storms and heavy rainfall. After these storms move out Saturday evening, the rest of the weekend looks calm with dry weather on Sunday and highs back into the middle to upper-80s. We are in a level 2 out of 5 severe weather risk, mainly for damaging wind gusts and heavy rain, although there will be a small hail threat too. This slow-moving cold front will kick off more scattered showers and storms and it's possible a few storms could be strong. But the chance for rain and storms really begins to ramp up late Friday night and into Saturday as our next weathermaker slides into the area. That means if you are heading to the Bengals preseason game against the Packers at Paycor Friday night, the chances for rain will be low with temperatures falling from the 80s into the 70s. I can't rule out a shower late Friday afternoon into Friday evening, especially west of I-75, but the chance looks small right now. Friday looks warmer and humid with temperatures topping out in the middle-80s. Watch for some patchy valley fog to start the day. Highs today only reached into the lower-80s and under clear skies tonight, we fall through the 70s and back into the 60s by morning. Good evening! After a gloomy and damp start to our Thursday, we saw the clouds slowly move out late this afternoon and has set us up for a nice, quiet evening. A slim chance for a late day shower, mainly west of I-75. WEATHER AUTHORITY FORECAST - THURSDAY - AUGUST 10TH - 6:30PM UPDATE ![]()
